My project checklists

I keep these checklists in my Logseq system. I use them to make the beginning, ending, and handoff of a project explicit.

Project kickoff

  • Communicate with stakeholders.
  • Capture my current thinking.
  • Define success criteria, including stretch goals.
  • Create a project outline and plan.
  • Tag the project #Ongoing.
  • Search my notebook for related terms and tags, then link relevant notes.
  • Have an official kickoff.

Project completion

  • Add a summary and important notes.
  • Compare the final result with the design document.
  • Mark the project and its tasks complete on every platform.
  • If the project is inactive rather than complete, add its current status before archiving it.
  • Remember that constant progress is unnecessary. Be honest when a project is stalled, and wrap it up so it can be resumed later.
  • Check my OKR page in Logseq and mark the key result complete when applicable.
  • Communicate with stakeholders.
  • Evaluate the success criteria.
  • Identify useful intermediate packets of work and turn them into pages.
  • Celebrate a clear-cut victory, then start fresh.

End of a work session

Record:

  • Ideas and work items for the next steps.
  • The current status.
  • Details I am likely to forget.
  • My intention for the next session.

The point is not constant progress. Writing these things down helps me leave the project in a state that I can understand and resume. This is especially helpful for me because I have ADHD.
